GUIDE · UPDATED OCT 24
Two screens, two different rules
The Duo's folding inner display is a 10-plus-layer stack with a nano-texture cover that Apple never meant you to peel. The cover screen is ordinary glass. Protect them differently, and check that your case doesn't fight the protector.
- Inner — flexible film only. Never tempered glass. Factory layer stays on.
- Outer — glass OK. Check case overlap.
- 01No glass on the fold
Rigid glass can't follow the bend radius and will crack or lift at the crease.
- 02Keep the factory layer
The nano-texture cover is part of the display assembly. Any film goes on top of it.
- 03Apple's own fix: $19.99
With AppleCare+, the inner cover layer is replaced in store when it wears. Inner display: $99. Cover display or back glass: $29.
- 04Mind the matte
A glossy film over the nano-texture adds glare and makes the crease more visible. Matte films keep the look closer to stock.
